Kongoni Camp-Nanyuki

We all love the holidays and the cheer that comes with it, we happened to stumble upon Kongoni Camp a while back and decided to spend Christmas with them. This place was more than a bed and breakfast,it felt like a vacation home for us. Situated in the middle of a picturesque shrub landscape, surrounded with bushy cedar trees which are home to many bird species it promised a great holiday destination.

Kongoni Camp has one of the most beautiful views of  Mt.Kenya and is a hub for trekkers climbing the Sirimon and Burguret routes as well as a great stopover for visitors on route to interesting attractions like the famous Ol Pejeta Conservancy which is 14kms away, Mt Kenya 12kms and the famous Ngare Ndare Forest Trust.

Kongoni Camp is situated less than 2 km from Nanyuki Town northwest of Mt Kenya off the Meru road. There is an aura of class, peace and tranquility as you drive into the camp. We happened to reach there in the evening, blame it on the last minute rush to spend Christmas with loved ones upcountry.

Once in , you notice the rustic meets elegant vibe from the thatched roundavels rooms to the green gardens. We checked in to our room, freshened up and headed for the Steak house.

Both Eddie’s bar and  the restaurant are housed in an open log cabin style building ‘the Steak house’ with an open porch and a huge fire place. The decor is contemporary and tasteful, not to forget a spacious fully stocked bar. The dim lights illuminate the restaurant to create an intimate and leisure atmosphere. It’s simply elegant, chic and comfortable at the same time; we consider this place an artist’s paradise.

The restaurant offer a delicious alternative to home cooking, a masterpiece cleverly displayed by the chef with the sole intention of scintillating your taste buds.

Bliss!

Our roundavel had an African theme. The antiques, the paintings and a touch of fresh flowers around the entire room including the bathrooms made it so refreshing. The modern bathroom had well stocked towels and toiletries.
